Install Ernest on a Shopify store

This procedure adds Ernest to a Shopify store.

Before you start

You must have a Shopify store. You must be the owner of the store.

Install the app

  1. Open the Shopify App Store.
  2. Find the Ernest app.
  3. Click Install.
  4. Read the list of permissions.
  5. Click Install app to agree.

Shopify sends you back to Ernest. Ernest makes an account for your store.

  1. Type your email address and a password.
  2. Click Create account.

Ernest connects your store automatically. Ernest reads your policy pages and your product list.

Add the chat widget

The install does not put the chat widget on your store. You must turn on the app embed in your theme.

  1. Open your Shopify admin.
  2. Click Online Store, then Themes.
  3. Click Customize on your live theme.
  4. Click App embeds in the left panel.
  5. Turn on Ernest.
  6. Click Save.

The chat widget is now on your store.

If the account and the store are not connected

Complete the account step in the same browser as the install. If you close the page, go back to Ernest and sign in. Ernest connects the store to your account.

If the dashboard does not show your store, contact support.
